Course overview
Course description
The course will be in two parts.
The first part will explore the impact of 6 Revolutionary thinkers and will run from in the Spring from April to May.
Part One of the course will focus on those earlier Revolutionary Thinkers that influenced the thinking on Earth’s place in the Universe and how these new ideas had an impact on the prevailing religious beliefs at the time.
These early thinkers will include, Copernicus, Galileo and Sir Isaac Newton.
The first part of the course will also look at Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and the impact his ideas on Natural History and Religious beliefs at the time. The course will also look at the impact of how Thomas Paine’s political ideas of political emancipation and democracy influenced and inspired political revolutions in America and France in the 18th Century.
The second part of the course will start with focussing on how Karl Marx and daughter Eleanor, had such an impact on political revolutions across the world. Centuries. The course will also highlight scientific inventors who transformed the industrial age such as Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell
This part of the course will also explore the impact of the Pankhurst family on the political emancipation of women in Britain and the impact of the psychological views of Sigmund and Anna Freud on the thinking of people across the world and on the world of Art and Literature.
