Course description
Hever Castle is connected to some of the most famous characters in British history – Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII and the Astor family among them. But it is also a fascinating building in its own right. It began (probably) as a moated manor house before becoming a fine family home with military pretensions, and later still, a country seat to entertain the rich and powerful. But do we really know everything about this historic background?
During the course we will trace its development through the centuries, look at some of the evidence associated with the building and its owners and address some controversies – most notably whether we can be sure what Anne Boleyn looked like.
