Course overview

Funny, sad, angry, informative diaries are always a revealing and thought provoking window into the lives of our ancestors. This course peeps through that window. Join the class as we discover the intricate details of the past. What was it like to live in those times and how is life different for us today? This course is for anyone who has a passion for history and the lives people led back then.

Course description

Over the centuries people have confided their thoughts on events personal, local and national to their diaries; a large number of those local diaries have survived.

This course aims to look at life and events through the writings of the ordinary people who witnessed them and stars a new cast of local diarists from a variety of backgrounds. If you would like to consider daily life and historic events through the words of people who witnessed those events, rather through later interpretation, this is the course for you.
