Course overview

Learn Pre-Entry English at a pace that matches your level. This course is for speakers of other languages, who wish to, not only improve their English, but who also want to learn digital skills.  Learning how to speak, listen, read and write in English is tough enough, yet most forms and community provisions are online. This course will aim to remove the language barrier so you can access the digital world and improve not only your English but your life here in the UK. This course also aims to get you ready for our employability course, so that nothing can stop you from getting your dream job!

Course description

This pre-entry course will be held at the Digital Skills Hub in Boscombe and will build on your learning experiences. We all know the best thing to learn something new is practice and this course gives you the space to do that.

In this course we will work towards overcoming the language barrier that permits the use of UK digital devices. Language will be taught about all things digital and in session practical and supportive activities will see you thriving in the digital world.

Before the course starts, we assess your level and place you on the correct course for you. There you will be able to access different digital devices (laptops provided – or bring your own) and learn the English words for the equipment (e.g. computer, keyboard, mouse), the software (word, excel, Microsoft) and the internet. You will learn how to log in to devices and websites, and how to access important websites e.g. Job Centre, NHS etc. As you become more familiar with the terms used you can explore apps like google maps and street view, as well as build a community around you that can support you on your English learning journey.
