Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.

Course overview
Course description
ESOL Outdoors will introduce you to the Countryside, Nature and Wildlife of the British Isles, improving your language skills as we go. This course will be taught in a classroom and sometimes outdoors exploring the local area. It will open up different aspects of the British natural world through a range of texts and activities to develop your vocabulary, spelling, reading and writing. You will explore the outdoors, use ESOL and practical skills to improve health, wellbeing and understanding of the British natural world. This course could lead to a gardening, environment or permaculture course. You will also be encouraged to volunteer locally at Southampton’s WEA Learning Centre or other green areas of Southampton working alongside Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust among other organisations. This course is part of Southampton City Council’s adult education programme and is free to residents of Southampton who live in the following postcodes SO14, SO15, SO16, SO17, SO18 and SO19.
