Course overview

Do you want to start learning English? If English is not your first language and you want to learn at a beginner level, this course will get you started with some of the words and phrases needed to communicate with other people in everyday situations. It will also give you confidence with some basic communication skills. This beginner level ESOL course will help you to communicate basic ideas in English, read and write simple texts . You will practice reading, writing, speaking and listening, with a focus on conversation skills. You will also learn new vocabulary, improve your pronunciation, and start to learn about basic English grammar. You will work with other learners at a similar level and be expected to take part in pair and group activities in the classroom.

Course description

On this course you will develop basic English language skills, which are essential in everyday life

In this friendly and informal class, you will improve your English-speaking, reading and writing skills. It is aimed at beginners or those with very little English. You will practise English speaking for everyday situations like health, travel, work and shopping.

It will improve your confidence and help you to become more independent. The tutor will help you to access learning activities in class and you will be able to work with others to practise your conversation skills.

You will be participating in role play situations where you will ask and respond to open questions , listening to your classmates and resources on the internet .

After you have completed this course, you can move on to an ESOL course to work towards qualifications in English reading, writing, speaking & listening. You can also move on to a beginners’ digital skills course.

To join this course, come on Wednesday 17th April from 10 am -1pm at Reading International Solidarity Centre, to enrol . Please bring proof of benefits and residence address for fee waiver.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need.
