Course overview

This is a foundation pre-entry level course which supports low level pre-entry ESOL learners who are not yet equipped with the basic English needed to start a pre-entry course. The course is part 1 of a 2-part course which will build the learners confidence in starting to learn the basics of English such as forming and writing the alphabet, the phonetic sounds required for basic reading and starting to use basic vocabulary. The course will enable learners to build their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing and learning the basic study stills they need to be in the classroom as an adult.

Course description

The course is split into 2 parts. All learners will be given the change after the first course ends to carry on with part 2 or progress onto a pre-entry course at the same venue.

The course will be running face to face at a friendly venue in the community in Burnley. The tutor is experienced and qualified. The course will run for 45 hours over nine weeks.

At the end of the course you will have met the following learning objectives;

1 Be able to introduce yourself to others.

2 Be able to understand simple statements.

3 Be able to read the English alphabet.

4 Be able to listen and identify information.

5 Be able to write your full name.

The course will enable you to start your English studies and give you the confidence to engage in more ESOL provision, enabling you to get used to a classroom environment as an adult and engage with a tutor and peers.

The course will also give learners the opportunity to meet other ESOL learners in their own community and the opportunity for them to engage in a positive manner in a safe environment under the supervision of the tutor.
