Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

Course description
What we’ll cover: • Make contributions to discussions on a given topic, making appropriate choices for vocabulary, formality and tone of voice • Listen for and identify pieces of information in different situations (eg. Telephone calls, radio/TV, recorded information). • Respond to detailed or extended questions giving appropriate answers. • Make requests and ask questions to obtain information in familiar and unfamiliar contexts • Recognise different modal verbs using correct function written or spoken, in a sentence or question. This ESOL level 2 course focuses on how to improve speaking and listening skills in English. It is for adults. You need prior speaking and listening skills to take this course, that’s why you’ll do a skills check to enrol. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for you. Our friendly team will contact you to start your skills check as part of your booking. When you complete this module, you can continue with other ESOL skills for life level 2 courses. There are also reading and writing courses. What to expect: This hybrid (online and face to face) ESOL level 2 speaking and listening course takes 22.5 hours to complete. The WEA is an experienced ESOL course provider. We want you to get the most out of your studies and open doors to opportunities. Our tutors and staff will help you with any language needs you might have.
