Course overview

During this friendly 6-week course, for those whose first language is NOT English, you will be able to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. The course will use the themes of Shopping, Cinema and Heroes to practise English in a relatable and meaningful way. It will include individual, pair and group work with opportunities to improve all four main skills. To join this course, you will need to have a reasonable level of English as materials will be at Level 1 (B1/B2) proficiency. The course will cover some aspects of pronunciation and grammar in addition to practising the 4 main skills.

Course description

This friendly and inclusive 6 week course revisits and builds on the use of reported speech in statements, questions and commands. It also covers the use of the passive voice and defining and non-defining relative clauses. During this course, you will look at the functions of complaining and of giving and reacting to news. You will also try your hand at writing a film review. During these supportive and interactive sessions, we will use the topics of shopping, cinema and heroes to explore these grammar points and related vocabulary. Pronunciation will be on given consonant sounds, sentence stress and word stress. There will also be opportunities for practice of new concepts in the sessions and you will be encouraged to reflect on your learning in each session. In addition to formative quizzes in class, there will be a short test at the end of the course to enable you to recognize and reflect upon your own progress and identify areas for further practice and development. There will also be opportunities for you to ask questions and bring lexis into the classroom from your own personal real life experience outside of the classroom.
