Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
Created for beginners and those wanting to refresh their sewing skills. By the end of the course, you will be able to:
-Independently set up and safely operate a sewing machine
- Name three sewing machine stitches.
- Name three types of fabrics.
- Follow a simple sewing pattern to create a bag.
- Name five sewing tools.
- Complete one project of your choice.
Whilst basic materials and equipment are provided, you will be encouraged to bring fabric/materials of your choice for your main project. This will allow you to develop your own style and create an item to suit your personal taste. Whether you make something for yourself or to give as a gift, you will accomplish some sewing to be proud of. Don’t worry if you are a complete beginner, our tutor will guide and encourage you step by step until your confidence grows. Following the course, you may wish to progress to an intermediate level sewing class, or an accredited course. You may be sewing as a hobby or exploring the option as a career choice - our tutor will be able to help you to decide at the end of the course which type of course would suit your aspirations best.
