You will also get an opportunity to enjoy and connect with a group of people with similar interests to share ideas and inspiration.

Course description

Explore creative methods to turn unwanted fabrics and garments into unique and valued items and enjoy the chance to connect with like-minded individuals to share ideas and inspiration. We will cover basic hand and machine stitches in detail as well as when and where to use them. We will also highlight the importance of learning hand stitching as there are many instances where this is the better option over machine stitching. You will explore different embellishing techniques and different ways of finishing seams.

You will learn about the impacts of fast fashion on the environment and how we can all help to reduce these negative effects. By the end of the course, you will have identified some examples of how recycling what we already have is better for the planet than buying new every time. It can also save us money, of course! We will be working on individual projects each week; learners are welcome to choose and bring their own projects.

English, maths and digital skills will also be developed whilst on this practical course in a friendly and supporting learning environment. After completing this course, you may want to progress to a further craft course at advanced level.
