Course overview
Course description
This sewing course offers a step-by-step approach to building foundational sewing skills, perfect for beginners or those looking to refresh their knowledge. The course begins with an introduction to the sewing machine, covering its key components and the eight essential stitches every beginner should know. You will practice essential techniques, such as sewing in circles and straight lines, and will learn how to sew bias binding, pockets, and a tote bag using only measurements.
As you progress, you will explore fabric types, learning how to identify and select the right materials for your projects. The course also provides hands-on experience with commercial patterns, teaching you how to interpret pattern symbols and make basic alterations, including hemming by hand, sewing buttonholes, and installing zippers.
Beyond sewing, the course includes a marketing module where you’ll learn how to research and choose selling platforms, use social media effectively, create eye-catching adverts with Canva, and implement marketing strategies that boost online visibility. Finally, you’ll craft a one-page business plan using the Business Canvas Model, setting clear objectives for your sewing business over the next six months. By the end of the course, you'll be equipped with the skills and knowledge to turn your sewing passion into a thriving venture.
