Course overview
Course description
Come and join us to discover the wonderful world of garment-making and alterations! On this friendly and supportive course our focus is on developing your garment making knowledge and techniques, rather than making a specific item or garment. We are going to cover a variety of altering techniques and recycling ideas as well to help you to use what you already have to save money and the environment. The course will give you both the confidence and the skills to calculate how to create costings and profit margins if you plan to take sewing or altering further and decide to work for yourself. The focus of this course is on developing your garment making skills and knowledge, rather than making one specific item or a garment. Every pattern or item you sew is going to be different and will require different skills. You will get to understand all the basic techniques and have a solid foundation to tackle your dressmaking problems and learn new altering technique at the same time. This course will teach you how to measure accurately, design patterns and incorporate geometry and symmetry into your sewing. On completion of this course, you can progress to starting to sell your work and perhaps establish your own small business. You can also progress to digital skills, English and maths courses.
