Course overview

This is a creative and hands-on course designed to enhance and extend your sewing skills while promoting sustainability through the art of upcycling and reusing Denim fabric. Throughout this course, you will delve into the world of Denim, exploring its unique qualities and learning techniques to transform old denim into beautiful and functional creations. Waste reduction is a central theme, encouraging everyone to make the most out of every scrap of fabric. Understand the characteristics and versatility of Denim and cultivate imagination and innovation in design through denim projects. You will need sewing experience for this course.

Course description

Throughout this course, you will develop techniques for deconstructing and repurposing old denim garments. Some sewing skills are required for this course and knowledge of drafting and following a pattern is also essential. You will build on existing sewing knowledge with a focus on Denim. You will brainstorm and research ideas for individual denim projects. You can adapt patterns to suit your own preferences.

You will be able to adapt existing patterns to suit the requirements of upcycling and recycling existing denim. You will develop your skills in taking accurate measurements and making necessary adjustments to patterns. You will apply creativity and problem-solving skills to transform a denim fabric to upcycled projects. Practice precision and attention to detail in the construction process to achieve high-quality results.

Sewing machines, ideas and patterns will be provided but you are advised to research ideas and share your findings with fellow learners and inspire each other with innovative ideas.

By the end of this course, you will have honed your sewing skills, expanded your creativity, and developed a deeper appreciation for sustainable fashion practices. You will leave the course with a collection of unique denim creations and the confidence to continue exploring and experimenting with denim in your future projects.
