Course overview
Course description
This practical online course has been designed to introduce beginner textiles techniques such as layering fabrics, balancing colours and how to simplify photos into colour blocks and patterns, making it suitable for beginners and improvers. The course will cover how create a theme or tell a story and takes you through composition and construction of the fabric elements, then finishes with adding stitched details. You will learn how to use basic stitch techniques to create texture and bring detail to the pictures being created. The course is fun, creative and brings together different elements that are great for experimentation. There is a great opportunity to use fabrics you may already have, if you are new to stitching and crafting you could start collecting small pieces of fabric/old bits of clothing and build a small collection of colours and textures that you like. This online course has the benefits of learning from home but also sharing your work with other learners, discussion and tutor feedback. By the end of the course, you will be able to, Demonstrate how to translate a flat picture/photograph into a fabric picture. Construct a picture in fabric and thread using basic stitch knowledge. Demonstrate how to layer fabrics and mix colours and textures during the course. Gain confidence in creative textiles and creating your own ideas. Use the skills you have learned to move onto other textile and sewing based courses
