Course description
The "Art: Developing Techniques in Watercolour" course is designed for beginner to intermediate learners eager to explore the fluid and luminous medium of watercolour. This course offers a thorough introduction to the fundamental techniques and principles of watercolour painting, allowing participants to develop their artistic skills and personal style.
The course begins with an overview of watercolour materials, including brushes, paper types, and paints. Participants will learn foundational techniques such as creating washes, glazing, and the wet-on-wet method. Instruction will also cover essential aspects of colour theory, mixing, and achieving the right balance of pigment and water to create vibrant, translucent layers.
Students will engage in a variety of hands-on exercises to practice these techniques, working on projects that range from simple studies to more complex compositions. Subjects will include landscapes, florals, still life, and abstract designs, providing a broad spectrum of experiences and challenges. Emphasis will be placed on understanding light and shadow, mastering value transitions, and creating dynamic compositions.
Throughout the course, participants will receive personalised feedback and guidance from the instructor, helping them to refine their techniques and develop a deeper understanding of the medium. Peer critiques will also foster a collaborative learning environment, allowing students to learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives.
By the end of the course, students will have created a diverse portfolio of watercolour artworks, demonstrating their growth and proficiency with the medium. This course offers a supportive and enriching environment for artists to explore the expressive potential of watercolours, enhancing both their technical skills and creative confidence.
