Course overview

This course is aim at health and wellbeing, and gentle introduction to building confidence in art, learning how to draw and create simple shape and form drawings using in art Therapeutic art techniques and processes. Each session is aimed to create a relaxed atmosphere and we will do some breathing calming techniques. This 8-week course is designed to build your confidence in drawing art techniques. You will be following step by step instructions each week from the tutor learning how to balance and measure a drawing to fit on A4 paper. You will learn how follow instructions with folding paper and using measurements to create shapes and patterns.

Course description

You will learn to draw around objects found in the home for example tin of beans a smaller size and large dinner plates. You will learn how to apply art therapeutic art techniques to your drawings using art processes:

• repeat patten

• Pointillism

• Watercolours

• Mix media

then hopefully you will progress onto the next level course give you the

confidence to progress on to other WEA courses.

1. Start to develop basic art techniques by following instructions

with step-by-step drawing techniques.

2. Demonstrate at least 2 breathing techniques that will improve

health and wellbeing.

3. Develop at least 2 skills to work independently including

problem-solving and knowing how to ask for help on a screen.

4. Develop at least 2 skills to work together on a group project, for

example taking turns, taking part in discussions.

5. Develop the ability to comment on own work and the work of


Build on confidence in basic drawing skills to create pictures of e.g. animals / fruit.

Begin to produce a range of different pieces of art and be more confident in the use of different art techniques and media.

Build on practice skills and engagement with breathing exercises, to learn how to maintain a calm and relaxed working environment.

Build on confidence in ability to comment on own work and the work of others.

Build on confidence in step-by-step drawing skills.
