Course description

On this online 2.5 hour workshop you will learn about the versatility of acrylic paints, and focus on mixing your own colours using this exciting media. Taught by a friendly and experienced tutor, you will create a colour chart using the three primary colours which will be invaluable to you both now and for future art work. Painting with a limited palette is good exercise in understanding the colour mixing principles of acrylics. It is a fast drying medium, and it can also be thinned with water to create different effects. You will start a still life painting using the colour chart as a reference tool. You will receive guidance and help throughout the session. You will be encouraged to ask questions as you work, and also to share your results at the end of the session. Using items around you, you will sketch your composition, use mark making, produce an underpainting and then begin to add layers of colour. Acrylic paints can be applied not only by brush but also by palette knife. This course is suitable for those who have some prior knowledge. After the course, you may feel inspired to seek further study, or enrol on other WEA courses.
