Course description

On this one day course you will have fun experimenting with expressive soft chalk pastel techniques. You will draw flowers and gardens, using photographs as a reference. The day school will be suitable if you are a complete beginner or if you want to improve your skills. There will be exercises to work through and one to one advice, with an emphasis on ‘loosening up’ and trying something new. At the end of the course, you will have techniques to use on your own projects at home.

We will look at:

• Different types of pastels and their properties

• Using mark making to show texture and pattern

• Using drawing tools

• Choosing paper and coloured grounds

• Using a colour wheel to mix and choose colours to add vibrancy to your image.

Basic materials and equipment, including reference photos, will be provided. If you wish bring a choice of photos to work from as a reference for your final piece - pick something with bright colours and lots of different textures as this will work well with the medium.

There will be a small charge towards the cost of paper.
