Let's explore different habitats of the Natural World together. This is a friendly and supportive group, offering a space for experimentation and fun. Course description

Our inspiration will be rivers, heathland, moorland, hedgerows and waterways and their inhabitants such as ground nesting birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects such as dragonflies. We will use a range of different drawing and painting techniques to render different surfaces, and mix colours and tones to create depth and interest in a picture. We will identify different types of papers, canvases or other surfaces used for artworks and which media is best suited to them. We will apply simple rules of composition to create interest in a picture and complete at least one artwork on a theme of an animal, bird or insect within it's own habitat.

Topics and imagery will be provided by the tutor, but students are encouraged to explore and find imagery and other resources they are interested in. There will be sessions for students to finish work and for students to suggest topics and images. Materials could include watercolour, acrylic, soft and oil pastels and other that the group may suggest, with sessions on preparing paper and canvases and choosing paints, brushes, palette knives and other tools. Each demo will provide materials for students to experiment with and see what they would like to continue using, so that students can try before purchasing their own.
