Course overview

During this friendly and supportive course you will continue to build on the artistic confidence and skills you have already gained whilst developing your sketchbook practice during the autumn and spring terms. During the summer term you will continue to generate a Sketchbook full of new and developing ideas with the focus on lighting and shadow to create the illusion of a 3d environment and deep picture plane. Ideas generated in the sketchbook can be drawn upon to support the creation of a full-size work of art that can be ready for submission to an exhibition.

Course description

The Sketchbook is an important tool for the artist and this term we will trying out some new materials and techniques in our sketchbooks to focus on lighting and shadow, in order to create the illusion of a 3d environment and deep picture plane. During this friendly and supportive course you will have the opportunity to continue building your artistic confidence and the skills you have already gained, whilst developing your sketchbook from the previous autumn and spring term courses. You will regularly add new paintings, drawings and items of interest to your sketchbook each week. You will receive regular individual feedback from your tutor and will also be encouraged to share your work with other group members and participate in constructive and supportive feedback and group discussion. During the summer term you will continue to generate a Sketchbook that is full of new and developing ideas. Work generated in the sketchbook can then be drawn upon to support the creation of a full size work of art work ready for submission to an exhibition. During the summer term, you will also have the opportunity to join us on a visit to RAMM museum and Exeter Phoenix Galleries, where you will be able to research and consider the work of other artists for inspiration.
