Course overview

During this friendly and supportive course you will continue to generate new works of art by scaling up and developing the ideas collected during your art practice and in your sketchbook during the autumn and spring terms. During the summer term you will generate new finished pieces of art that will demonstrate the ability to make use of lighting and shadow to create the illusion of a 3d environment and deep picture plane. Artwork created during this term will be completed to a standard where it is ready to submit for an exhibition.

Course description

During the summer term we will be looking at some of the different techniques we can use to create light and shadow to enhance our artwork and how to use these techniques to create the 3d illusion of different environments and deep picture planes. You will spend time developing ideas that you collected and generated during your sketchbook practice to create a larger finished work of art, which is ready for submission and inclusion in a group exhibition. Your finished artwork will include the use of a new technique and material. The development of your finished artwork will be supported by researching the work of other artists for inspiration and this will include the opportunity to join us on a group visit to RAMM and Exeter Phoenix galleries, as well as undertaking some independent research of your own and bringing that information back to the class for sharing and discussion. You will receive regular one to one feedback from the tutor throughout the duration of the course and will have the opportunity to share and discuss progress of your works of art with other group members and to participate in group discussion, and constructive feedback in a supportive setting.
