Course overview

Improve your jewellery-making skills in this 7 week course taught by our experienced tutor. This course is very practical, and you will create wonderful pieces using budget-friendly materials. You will learn or improve your understanding of a variety of techniques, methods and processes of textile decoration and embellishment techniques. Beginners are also welcome as you will be guided step by step through each project. Learners will be required to provide photographic ID, proof of address and proof of benefits (if applicable) before starting the course.

Course description

Learners will be able to engage in hands-on projects and receive personalized guidance. Join a friendly community of learners to improve skills, exchange ideas, and showcase your creations.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Use a marbling technique to dye a piece of fabric to use as the base of your artwork

2. Explore different methods of dyeing raw fleece

3. Demonstrate at least 3 different embroidery stitches

4. Demonstrate at least 2 different fabric embellishment methods

5. Using all of the different techniques learned, create a unique collaged artwork

The tutor will provide materials and the tools you will need.

Instructions and other resources are available throughout the course on Canvas, the WEA digital resource, which you will also use to track your progress. The tutor will give constructive feedback on your work which will support you to improve and progress throughout the course

This is a 7 week course so learners should ensure that they will be available to complete the whole course.

After the course you may progress to a further course with the WEA.
