This intermediate course progresses from first principals and strokes, the course will steadily build to give you a comprehensive understanding of italic calligraphy. Continue on your calligraphy journey with this very practical course. Ideal if you If you have a little more experience or are a rusty returner, this class will help you improve your techniques and challenge you in this beautiful craft.
Italic is a beautiful script taught to many in school, this is your chance to improve it and take on to the next level. Immensely useful in a modern context and through the myriad of variations there is a script for everyone, come and discover yours.
The course will include:
-calligraphy techniques using a variety of pens and nibs and ink
-short projects to explore your techniques
-historic context and modern uses of this lovely script
-tools and equipment, where to get them, how to use and look after them
-plenty of guidelines and worksheets to help you
Course description
Prior knowledge of calligraphy is advised but not essential for this course, which runs for 12 weeks. Each lessons last 2 hours, plenty of time to master the techniques, ask questions and receive feedback from your teacher who is a professional calligrapher. There will the opportunity to do homework and group projects to ensure that you continue to progress. Ideal for right and left handers alike. You do not need to be artistic to enjoy calligraphy.
By the end of the course you will be creating lettering that is both useful and elegant. Beautiful writing never goes out of style. Further study options are available through the WEA after this course.
