Course overview

Discover the world of modern calligraphy in this practical course. Whether you are an experienced crafter and want to add to your skills. If you are a complete novice or are interested in trying a new hobby, calligraphy could be for you. Ideal for right and left handers alike. You do not need to be artistic to enjoy modern calligraphy. -Making cards and want to be able to add beautiful lettering to your work. -Wedding stationery - learn the techniques to give a flourish to invitations and place cards -Improve handwriting - gain confidence in pen control in a time when people write less. Using simple and easily available tools you will be able to explore some of the beautiful styles of lettering from the 21st century.

Course description

No prior knowledge of calligraphy is required, this course is also great for rusty returners. The course runs for 12 weeks. Each lessons last 90 minutes, plenty of time to master the techniques, ask questions and receive feedback from your teacher who is a professional calligrapher.

Progressing from the first basic strokes, how to hold the pen and correct posture, using and understanding the care of your equipment, with easily followed exercises and short projects that include:

-birthday cards and envelopes

-quotes - that can be framed and given as a present

-adding colour and decoration to your work

-there will be plenty of guidelines and worksheets to help you

There will the opportunity to do homework to ensure that you continue to progress. By the end of the course you will be creating contemporary lettering that is both useful and elegant. Beautiful writing never goes out of style. Further study options are available through the WEA after this course.
