This 2-hour workshop is designed specifically for Afghan refugee men to help them understand the concept of gender equality in the UK, their legal responsibilities, and the consequences of non-compliance with UK laws. The session takes a culturally sensitive approach, acknowledging Islamic values and Afghan traditions while introducing UK legal frameworks and social norms. The workshop will emphasise the role of men in fostering gender equality and positive family and community relationships.

Course description

The Gender Equality Awareness Workshop for Afghan Refugee Men in the UK is a 2-hour interactive session designed to help participants understand gender equality, their legal responsibilities, and the impact of their role in fostering inclusive and respectful communities. The workshop takes a culturally sensitive approach, respecting Islamic values and Afghan traditions, while introducing the UK’s legal framework on gender equality, family rights, and workplace responsibilities. Through engaging discussions, case studies, and expert guidance, participants will explore key topics, including gender roles from both Islamic and UK legal perspectives, the benefits of gender equality for families, and the consequences of discrimination or domestic abuse. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on UK laws such as the Equality Act 2010, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, and workplace rights, ensuring they understand the legal and social implications of their actions. This workshop encourages positive male leadership, non-violent communication, and strategies for conflict resolution to foster healthy family dynamics. By attending, participants will gain essential knowledge and tools to support gender equality, comply with UK laws, and contribute positively to their families and communities, ensuring successful integration into UK society while maintaining their cultural identity.
