Course overview

This course is funded by the Department for Education and only open to residents living in non devolved authorities.  This course introduces you to the basic digital skills needed to participate in simple online learning tasks. You will practise opening links, viewing short learning videos, and completing guided online activities using familiar devices. The course covers basic navigation skills, recognising key onscreen symbols, typing short answers, and using simple features like play/pause and zoom. You will explore safe behaviour online and learn how to ask for help when unsure.

Course description

This Digital Skills for Learning course is designed for those who are beginning to use digital tools to support their personal learning and confidence in an educational setting. The course focuses on helping you develop the essential, practical skills needed to access simple online learning materials, follow digital instructions, and participate safely and positively in a digital learning environment. You will use familiar devices to open links, watch short learning videos, and complete simple interactive activities. Through guided practice, you will build an understanding of basic onscreen icons, navigation features and tools such as play/pause, scrolling, and typing short responses.

The course also develops essential learning behaviours, including asking for help appropriately, following step by step instructions and explore safe behaviour online. You will take part in short, structured activities designed to strengthen your independence and confidence, while using digital technology at a pace that supports your needs. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using digital tools as part of your learning journey and will have developed the foundational skills needed to progress to further digital or study related courses.
