WEA student Jenni Williams certainly had a reason to celebrate at the York Adult Learner Awards 2016. From more than 20 shortlisted finalists Jenni was chosen as the Overall Winner of the York Awards.
To say that she was delighted with her success and achievement would definitely be an understatement and she was cheered on to the stage by a very proud tutor Kerry Roberts, Area Support Worker Robbie Noble and Organiser Diane Quinney.
In just the space of a year Jenni has completed four courses with WEA, two of them being the accredited Helping in Schools and Helping Pupils with SEND programmes. She has volunteered in school, become a parent champion volunteer, introducing many other parents to WEA learning and has taken on the role of parent governor. She has now been accepted to study for a foundation degree at York St John University. Phew!
Other finalists celebrating their achievements were David Stych and June Sideras from the WEA Creative Writing for Wellbeing course and Marie McMahon a Unison Return to Learn student.
