National Black History month
October is Black History Month (BHM) and its arrival each year sees a host of cultural and educational events across the country to celebrate the contributions and achievements of black people to the social, political, economic and cultural landscape of the UK. During October, communities across the country join together to acknowledge and celebrate the history of people of African, Caribbean and Asian descent. Some of the best guides to what’s on during this year’s BHM can be found on the web. 24 Hour Museum
Museums and galleries celebrate Black History Month this October on the 24 Hour Museum site. The website offers a guide to some key events – among the hundred’s – taking place to commemorate BHM in museums and galleries across the length and breadth of Britain.
Acts of Achievement
Launched two years ago by the Black Arts Alliance the Acts of Achievement website offers comprehensive information on everything happening in Greater Manchester and the North West of England during BHM. Workshops, history, familiy events, poetry, dance and more, it’s all here.
Arts Council England
The Black History Month London 2003 site is run by the Arts Council England and lists over 100 events happening in and around London this year.
BBC
The BBC’s website includes a Multicultural Historysection containing a wealth of articles and features as well a ‘Multimedia Zone’ with links to programmes of interest.
BBC London
BBC London has set up a special BHM website with an A-Z of London’s Black Historyand a ‘What’s Going On‘, guide to London events.
Black History Month
The Black History Month website celebrates black history all-year round and provides a one-stop-shop for information on history, news, features and events across the UK
Black Presence
Black Presence in an independent website dedicated to providing information, features and links about black history in Britain. Special features for this year’s Black History Month include a helpful ‘Getting Started in black British history’ section.
Channel 4
Channel 4’s interactive Black and Asian History map offers a searchable gateway to websites about black and Asian history in the UK.
Leeds City Council
The smart online Black History Month guide to BHM events and activities happening this year in Leeds compiled the Leeds City Council Arts and Regeneration Unit.

An extensive, searchable database of 150,000 items, Moving Here provides digitised photographs, maps, objects, documents and audio clips recording experiences of migration to England in the last 200 years.
