WEA Community Interpreting Forum

Bilingual advocates and interpreters: Defining the roles, working together effectively

Community Interpreting leafletThe WEA's third National Community Interpreting Project Forum is taking place in December under the title Bilingual Advocates and Interpreters: Defining the roles, Working Together Effectively. Guest speakers include Katja Huijbers from Action for Advocacy and Jean Luc Revest, a bilingual advocate, Interpreter and Trainer.

Bilingual advocacy can be a progression route for many experienced interpreters, particularly those working in the health services. The same person may work as an interpreter on one assignment and as an advocate in another. At times, both an interpreter and a bilingual advocate may be hired to work at the same interview with the same client. As such it is important that roles are clearly defined, and this forum will concentrate on looking at the priorities in each area of work and how practitioners can clarify their role with client and service provider and work effectively.

Further information on the forum is available on the forum programme or from:
