Felicity has been a Labour Councillor for Newcastle City Council since 2012.Prior to that she worked for Newcastle City Council as a Librarian and from 2000 - 11 managed a Union led Project developing adult learning and skills for life  opportunities for Council staff and other trade union members. She was an active Shop Steward for most of her working life and was one of the first Union Learning Reps in the North East. She was awarded an MBE in 2008 for services to skills in local government.

Within the WEA Felicity has been involved in helping to promote greater volunteer involvement in WEA activities and policies and values particularly the role of volunteers as champions of learning in their communities, just as Union Learning Reps have been at workplaces throughout the country.
