Express Yourself with Creative Art - Spring 2017

The ever popular Express Yourself with Creative Art course, masterfully tutored by Rachel Holland-Hargreaves, has once again had a term to remember as 14 students worked their way through artistic challenges and projects to produce a stunning amount of work inside of 9 weeks. Each week Rachel sets a topic/theme for the students to ponder and interpret before producing works to be show cased in the end of term exhibition.

Week 1: Using tissue paper, string and glue, build up a surface of texture.

Week 2: Thursday Afternoon at the Movies - Whether it's "Singing In The Rain", "Gone With The Wind" or inspired by the world of film.

Week 3: Object of Choice - Choose an object, the more mundane & domestic the better. The object you have chosen will be used for todays project and in development of the theme in weeks 4 & 5. Take your chosen object and make observational studies of it in different mediums, consider shape and texture. Explore the object from as many angles as possible.

Week 4: Look Surreal - Take your chosen object and place it within an unusual context; something ordinary in an unusual place where it wouldn't normally be seen can look extraordinary.

Week 5: Objectify your object - take your object and this time incorporate it in something else.

Week 6: The Wind in the Willows - Whatever springs to mind, characters from the famous story, a river or pond scene; using any medium of your choice, two or three dimensional, be inspired to create your scene.

Week 7: Page to painting - In the week of World Book Day, be inspired by literature and produce a piece of work which visually explores characters or scenes, whether it's Dickens, Shakespeare, Bronte and beyond.

Week 8: "I am half sick of shadows", said the Lady of Shalott. This is a quote from Tennyson's epic poem " The Lady of Shalott". This weeks theme is shadows, outdoors, indoors, large or small create an image which features a shadow or shadows.

Week 9: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!! - Let your imagination run wild, whatever this word, created and made famous in the Mary Poppins song, makes you think of. Put it down on paper or card or canvas, whatever medium you want.
