If you are a UK taxpayer, the Gift Aid scheme allows the WEA to claim back (from the Inland Revenue) an extra 25p for every £1.00 you donate to us. For example, if you donate £10 to the WEA, HM Revenue and Customs will add £2.50 to your gift – making your donation a total of £12.50!
The tax that we reclaim through the Gift Aid scheme will be used to help us fund all of our educational projects.
For the WEA to be able to reclaim the tax you have paid on your donations, you need to have paid, or be due to pay, an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for the current tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for the current tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.
We are then able to reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that you give.
When you make a donation we will ask you to confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and that you do want us to reclaim the tax element of your gift in line with the government regulation above.
You can make a Gift Aid donation with any donation that you make to the WEA including one-off donations and regular gifts.
