The Community Interpreting - Essential Skills and Knowledge course is intended for those who have:
- Paid or unpaid experience interpreting in public services in the UK
- Understanding and knowledge of the communities they represent
- Fluency in English and another language which is spoken locally
This is a 63 hour course focusing on interpreting skills, the role of the interpreter and issues raised. There is also input from visiting speakers from the public services.
This course is being run or piloted in the following WEA regions:
London , Southern, South West, North East, North West , Yorkshire and Humberside

If you are not eligible for the CIESK course but are interested in an introductory course in community interpreting, you may be interested the Understanding Community Interpreting course (21 hours).
Courses are run throughout the year in venues in different parts of the UK in partnership with local organisations.
