Trustees

A single body of Trustees is responsible for all aspects of governance and the WEA's twelve trustees are collectively and individually responsible for the management of the WEA's assets and resources at all levels. The Trustee body comprises:

  • Four National Officers
  • Three representatives from the WEA's Regions in England .
  • One representative from WEA Scotland.
  • Four externally co-opted Trustees

Association Committee

The Association Committee acts in an advisory role to the Trustees, and is made up of one voluntary representative elected from each English Region and two elected from WEA Scotland. Three of its English members and one of its Scottish members are elected to act as Trustees; they remain on Association Committee while also acting as Trustees. The four National Officers serve on the Association Committee in addition to being WEA Trustees. Rosemary Mayes, London Regional Director of the Open University, is currently co-opted to the Association Committee.

Management

The WEA's staff are led by a General Secretary, acting as the Chief Executive of the Association. WEA Scotland is managed by the Scottish Secretary, whilst each English Region is managed by a Regional Director. There are also three Directors whose responsibilites are nation-wide.
