We have undertaken research to quantify the additional income and savings that the Association generates in an academic year over and above the direct funding from the Government via the Adult Skills and Community Learning Budgets. This term ‘Pound Plus’ is used to describe this additional income and savings.

In the initial phase of the research it was established that the vast majority of WEA pound plus income is derived from the following three sources:

  • course fees and other grants;
  • contributions in kind from community partners; and
  • the use of volunteers.

The research shows that the total Pound Plus Value of Volunteering is equal to £4.31 million per year to the WEA. Download our summary report and reports on the impacts of volunteering and partnerships below.
