Membership and the WEA
The WEA has been a membership organisation for over 100 years. We attract members from all walks of life, all of whom share a belief in the value of education and lifelong learning for all adults, regardless of circumstance.
We currently have over 19,000 members of the WEA National Association. Membership is free* and open to anyone who supports the Principles of the Association . Many members are also active volunteers, helping to further the work of the Association at local, regional and national levels. The range of work undertaken by our voluntary members is extensive and can include the planning of courses for one our 650 Branches, publicising courses, fundraising, promoting the work of the Association and welcoming new students and members to the Association.
We have a proud tradition of voluntary and democratic practice, and at heart are controlled by our members. Many WEA members serve on Branch, Region and National Committees, and through their committee involvement play an important role in the governance of the Association.
