In addition to three Open University Openings courses being delivered by the WEA in locations around the country (click here for more on these courses, which are also available directly from the OU with telephone tutor support), a wider partnership between the OU and WEA has been established. Rosemary Mayes, Director of the OU in London, is now a co-opted member of the WEA’s governing Association Committee, and regular high-level meetings between the two organisations take place.
Plans are underway for collaborative work involving the new OU Openlearn Project, which provides free and open educational resources for learners and educators around the world through its website at http://www.openuniversity.co.uk/weaopenlearn. The WEA hopes to use OpenLearn by directing students to resources and activities held on the site, as well as using it to conduct virtual meetings and share good practice amongst tutors and staff. For further details of the thousands of other courses offered by the Open University, which are studied by around 180,000 people each year, please click here

As a national provider of adult education, the WEA works in tandem with thousands of organisations country-wide, from local community and voluntary groups to central government. We work with partners in a multitude of ways; we receive support from funding bodies such as the Learning and Skills Council; we develop and provide courses with national trade unions and local community groups, and we often run courses from premises provided by voluntary organisations in towns and villages.
By working together with partners and affiliates, we are able to develop appropriate courses and provide access to adult education where it is most needed or wanted.
We regret that we’re currently unable to provide information on the range of partners with whom we work locally across the UK. The links to the right provide further information on organisations formally affiliated to the WEA, partner organisations of which the WEA is a member, and national and international adult education sites of interest.
