Women’s Learning Programme

Who is it for?

The programme is open to any woman, but is particularly designed for those with few or no formal qualifications, who experience a range of social and economic disadvantages. It aims to build women’s confidence in their ability to learn and provides a stepping stone for further educational opportunities.

What does it cover?

Twelve subjects are offered plus a generic course framework for any other subjects districts wish to cover...

These are:

  • Confidence Building and Assertiveness
  • Preparing for Paid Work (can include IT)
  • Women into Maths
  • Women and Society
  • Women’s Health (can include IT)
  • Women’s History
  • Women into Science
  • Women and Families
  • Making a difference - Community Activisim and Leadership Skills
  • Personal Development
  • Working together - Group Work Skills

How is it organised?

The courses are taught over 20 hours with around 10 hours home study. Students can achieve an Open College Network credit by building a portfolio of their work.
