Women's Education Programme

Women’s education has always been a priority in the WEA. A Women’s Officer was appointed as early as 1905.

Almost a century later we still support, promote and deliver learning opportunities to women and with women across the country - and for the same reasons. Women want equal access to opportunities - in the workplace, in the family, in the community, in public life.

Women want to be confident and skilled to take up new challenges and roles and play an equal part in the world. To do this, many women require particular support and learning opportunities tailored to their needs and circumstances.

That’s why child care support is always part of the WEA approach to women’s education. That’s why the WEA works through women’s organisations in the community who know what local women need, that’s why the WEA makes it a priority to find out and offer learning opportunities that will make a difference to women.

Our approach puts women’s lives, their roles, their interests, in the centre of the learning experience, both as individuals and collectively as a group.

We work with women in ways which are student – centred, democratic, friendly and accessible. There is a wealth of learning activities to choose from in our women’s education programme. If you are looking for a course to build your confidence to help you move on to other goals, to learn about computers in a way that won’t scare you, get more informed about and take charge of your health, find out how to support your children’s learning in school, or learn how to support other women experiencing trauma through violence, homelessness or seeking asylum …and many, many more, please continue to read on………………………..
