Self Directed Support: Is It For Me?

Self Directed Support - Is It For Me?

Would you like to be in control of how and when you receive your support AND want more choice about how you organise your support, then the answer is YES!

The WEA are running two further courses to support mental health service users to explore what Direct Payments are all about and help you to decide whether they will give you more control and choice in the services you receive.

Direct Payments are cash payments made by councils in lieu of social service provision to help people who have been assessed as needing services and support. A Direct Payment gives you more flexibility in how these services are provided to you.

The course is delivered to small groups, with two tutors on hand to provide all the support needed to help you decide whether you would like to apply for a Direct Payment, and help you develop or brush up on the skills to manage a Direct Payment.

Courses will start again in September 2008. Each session runs for up to 3 hours on a Wednesday afternoon, with the course lasting up to 10 weeks. You will receive support for transport and refreshments are available at each session.
