The Region offers a wide range of courses for adults across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. Classes are run through local branches, our community outreach programme or through the workplace. Our branches - 60 over the East Midlands, ranging from Matlock in the Peak Region to Skegness on the east coast - are based in villages, towns and cities such as Nottingham, Lincoln, Leicester and Derby.
There might be a branch near you!
We offer people the opportunity to study with knowledgeable tutors and friendly fellow class members - and we encourage students to have a say in the planning of their own learning. All students on our courses have the opportunity to suggest what courses the local branch or group puts on.
Studying with the WEA East Midlands Region
The Region puts on around 900 courses a year, attracting students from all walks of life. Some of our classes offer nationally recognised credits, while others are for people who are disadvantaged socially, economically or educationally. But we also offer classes to anyone who simply wants to learn more, without gaining a qualification.
Subjects include:
- literature and creative writing
- history and local history
- music appreciation
- philosophy and psychology
- art history, arts and crafts
- natural history
- geology and archaeology
- social studies
- personal development
- helping people back into education
.....and many, many more. Everyone welcome - you can come along to the first meeting without obligation or book a place through the post.
News: The Digital Activist Inclusion Network (DAIN)
We're pleased to be part of an exciting new innovation and trans-national project part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). Running from April 2009 to May 2012, the project aims to develop, test and deliver approaches to challenge the digital divide - helping widen participation in employment and learning. DAIN is an action research partnership project and involves three UK partners including ourselves, NIACE and CEFET. Also involved are four trans-national partners including Institut fur Lern-Innovation (Germany's Institute for Innovation in e-learning) who are the lead transnational partner around sharing of good practice and dissemination of DAIN project findings.
